Nasiba Adilova and Rosie Assoulin ADILOVA LOVES I had a wonderful time catching up with my dear friend, designer Rosie Assoulin, when she visited me in Dallas in September. Follow our chat below, and find her fabulous Spring/Summer 2015 collection at Forty Five Ten. Nasiba Adilova Rosie Assoulin and Nasiba Adilova What did you learn in your internships at Oscar de la Renta, Adam Lippes, Lanvin and Brian Reyes that motivated you to launch your own brand? The importance of being committed to your vision. Sometimes that works in your favor, and sometimes, in the short run, it may appear that it can set you back. But ultimately authenticity is the best and only policy. What is your design aesthetic? We tend to focus on scale, proportion and ease as a filter for whatever we are looking at or working on. For right now, anyway … Who knows how that will evolve! What inspired your Spring/ Summer 2015 collection? So many things inspired the collection, but throughout it, we have these little mini-stories. For instance, a story grew out of a moment we shared while on vacation with you and our friends over the summer — Taylor Tomasi Hill, Leandra Medine, Federica Fanari, Georgina Mackie and Claire Disenfeld. All the girls had these amazing straw hats. A gust of wind flew by and carried your favorite hat off into the ocean. At that moment, the captain stopped the boat and sent someone to retrieve it. It was a really glamorous and sort of old-fashioned, chivalrous moment that I loved so much! The humble straw hat bringing all that hulking steel to a halt. How fabulous, I thought; we must have straw hats! Describe the beautiful gown Michelle Dockery wore to the Emmys this year and what that experience meant to you. It was an absolutely unexpected and beautiful moment for us! Michaela Erlanger, Michelle Dockery's stylist, has been a great supporter of ours and picked out the Tulip gown. It was one of my absolute favorites of the collection, too, and we had been waiting for it to have a moment. Michelle is incredibly gorgeous, but it was her inner elegance and poise that really shone that evening. We were very, very thrilled to have a part in it. Your memorable moment at the George W. Bush Presidential Center gala honoring Oscar de la Renta. Mr. de la Renta is a personal hero of mine and is also where I spent my very first fashion internship. His elegance, style, charm and glamour are legendary on both a personal level and within his exquisite clothing. It was very meaningful, seeing the collections of the past 50 years on display and seeing members of the de la Renta team again. Mr. de la Renta and his beautiful atelier are a big part of why I am so enamored by this challenging business. We all need those magic moments to remember why we are here and what we are striving for. Whom would you love to dress? Women who can wear our clothes in their own individual way. It's a dynamic endeavor. It excites me to see when women bring their own personal style to it, wearing the clothes we make in a way we wouldn't have ever imagined. They have to love it and be comfortable.
