T his issue is flush with parties — our last gasp of holiday coverage before moving on to spring and the dreamy parties at Rienzi (Rienzi Society Annual Dinner, Tuesday, February 3), the Green Gala benefitting Memorial Park Conservancy (Thursday, February 5) and Houston Ballet's Masked Ball: a Tribute to Romeo and Juliet (Wednesday, February 18). You'll want diaphanous dresses — and maybe a whiff of debauchery and insouciance; see pages 21 through 25 for a primer on achieving sartorial splendor and desperate despondency … in the guise of youth. We tie up dreamy love with weddings, bridal gowns, veils, flowers, blinding diamonds and a page of classic bride versus avant- garde bride. We'll take the edgy and experimental every time. The new and unusual is what keeps us on our toes — in design, in art, fashion, food … and love. Happy Valentine's. xo Holly Moore Editor in Chief holly@papercitymag.com HUNT SLONEM 12 PaperCity Weddings in this ISSUE FEBRUARY 2015 | STYLE | FASHION | SOCIAL 4 , 6 P O P. C U L T U R E . A t the last Isabella Court openings, we had an encounter with a new form of painting — vaporous washes of color executed not on canvas, but on organic, abstracted forms of clay like sentient beings emitting pastel vibrations. Write this name down: Angel Oloshove. The past Lawndale "Big Show" winner now appears at Art Palace, where her "Floating Worlds" installation conjures a feminist take on Ken Price ceramics (through February 14). This is as good as it gets. (Just ask MFAH design curator, Cindi Strauss, who has an Oloshove in her personal collection.) Art Palace, 3913 Main St., 281.501.2964, artpalacegallery.com. Catherine D. Anspon VAPOR CLAY @ T H E H O U S T O N D E S I G N C E N T E R F or months after Seth Vaughan left us for the hallowed halls of Columbia University, we searched for the perfect person to take the helm of PaperCity's social department. Then Anne Lee Phillips came to interview, and we knew: We'd found our social editor. Watch for this smart University of Virginia grad — who has a penchant for Hermès scarves — taking notes around town, Montblanc pen in hand. She wields a degree in English, a minor in drama and honed her expertise in New York at a white-glove intellectual-property law firm and as a senior legal expert for Wenner Media (where she vetted stories for both Rolling Stone and Us Weekly), so we're confident she's a match for our socials. You can contact Anne at anne@papercitymag.com. Catherine D. Anspon A SOCIAL SCRIBE ARRIVES A mong fall's holiday fêtes, one that stood out was Zadok Jewelers' Gem Vault Party at the graceful River Oaks home of Sheridan and John Eddie Williams. Showcased that evening was a very special collection of colored diamonds arrayed in perfectly curated vitrines — a display to rival the holdings of the Houston Museum of Natural Science's vaunted Smith Gem Vault. After the night ended, many of the treasures remained in town, carried exclusively at the seventh-generation Zadok Jewelers. What lucky bride wouldn't want the question popped with an extraordinary stone of natural beauty, clarity and a rare, unexpected hue — such as this vivid yellow diamond. Also investigate more unrivaled and unique colored diamonds set into rings, bracelets, necklaces and earrings, in colors spanning intense orange to deep bluish green, intense pink and fancy gray blue. The latter, mounted in a ring of Deco-like simplicity, is what we surmise Mrs. de Menil would have worn to match her museum — or perhaps it's Fifty Shades.
