DECORATION ON THE CARPET JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON S ixty-year-old Italian contemporary furniture company Moroso opens in Houston Tuesday, October 13, at West Ave, to much beating of hearts. An early adopter of the practice of hiring designers of the zeitgeist to create collections (eons before Target and H&M), Ron Arad, Patricia Urquiola (Moroso's principal designer), Ross Lovegrove, Tord Boontje, Konstantin Grcic, Tokujin Yoshioka and Doshi Levien are all in the Moroso design family, as well as many others. Classic designs include Arad's Three Skin Chair (2004), Lovegrove's Supernatural chair (2005), Boontje's Shadowy chair (2013) and Urquiola's Lowland collection (2000). The Moroso stable, as well the Diesel Living collection from the fashion house, promise to be well represented in the 2,000-square-foot showroom, which is only the second Moroso showroom in the United States (the first being the U.S. flagship in NYC). Adam Branscum, the Houston partner for Moroso, has also partnered with Ligne Roset and Poliform in West Ave, where he is quickly developing a stronghold of contemporary international showrooms. Holly Moore FOR THE LOVE OF MOROSO D usky and richly hued, a new collection of small carpets has emerged from a collaboration between two Houston strongholds of design. Found and Carol Piper Rugs have produced stunning carpets in grayed hues of violet, beryl, mouse fur, moss, brine and ash, edged and bound in contrasting vermillion, amethyst, aquamarine. The amazing color can't be emphasized enough — it's at the heart of the luscious carpets. Each is woven by hand in Nepal in silk pile and constructed using a traditional Tibetan-style of weaving originally brought to Nepal by Tibetan refugees fleeing Chinese persecution. The lush texture is paradoxically strong and hard-wearing to serve daily household use at the sink, bedside, powder room. Each carpet 24 x 36 inches, in stock, $965, exclusively at Found, starting this month. Holly Moore Here's a stunning and glamorous move on Knoll's part: introducing Warren Platner's wire furniture in plated 18K gold to celebrate Platner's 50th anniversary with Knoll. A gold finish was part of Platner's original plan for the collection, but it went unrealized until recent technological developments made it possible. Armchair $5,779, and stool $$2,650, available early September at Sunset Settings. Holly Moore GO FOR THE AU A lexandra von Furstenberg — who, for 10 years, served as creative director at her mother-in-law's design house, Diane von Furstenberg — relocated several years ago to L.A. and began her foray into home design products. Laser-focused on acrylic, her burgeoning collection of chunky acrylic bowls, boxes, trays and small furnishings has been picked up by Longoria Collection, with an emphasis on the brighter-hued accessories. At Longoria Collection; arriving in- store September 15. Holly Moore CLEAN CUT Love Me Tender by Patricia Urquiola for Moroso Bouquet chair by Tokujin Yoshioka for Moroso
