The TSHA is one of the funders of the free handbook, along with Houston Endowment and Houston History Alliance. The History Alliance has enlisted Lindsay Scovil Dove — a tap-dancing veteran of local music theater as well as a historian wielding an MA in Public History from the University of Houston — as editor of the ambitious, ongoing project eight years in the making. When it goes live, the Handbook will have 1,500 entries (posted by vetted volunteers), made more compelling by many never-before-seen images culled from archives as diverse as the Library of Congress and UH's Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management.
