Photography Julian Bajsel. T he occasion: cocktails and a panel in the name of Marfa Modern: Artistic Interiors of the West Texas High Desert (The Monacelli Press), a tome dedi- cated to the artful modernist in- teriors presiding in that desert town, photographed by PaperCity contributing photographer Casey Dunn. A swanky en plein air cocktail and book signing atop The Wilshire high-rise was planned, but Mother Nature inter- vened and forced a relocation to the more intimate (enclosed) environs of Internum a few weeks later. We can't think of a more architecturally perfect and fitting location, hosted by the charming store manager Carla Munoz. Architect Carlos Jiménez and designer Barbara Hill (who both have designed multiple projects in Marfa) and the book's author, Helen Thompson, engaged in a lively discussion about the wealth of art, inspiration, high-minded creativity, and design in Marfa, which was named for a Brothers Karamazov character. Alongside Internum, Giorgetti Houston, Sudhoff Companies, Rice Design Alliance, and PaperCity co-hosted the discourse, fueled by Deep Eddy Vodka, wines from Domaine Bousquet, and light bites from A Fare Extraordinaire.
