24 AND ALL DANCED EVER AFTER HAPPILY ECHOING STANTON WELCH'S NEW TAKE ON CINDERELLA, GHOSTLY APPARITIONS ADD A STARTLING AND GENIUS NOTE TO THE BALLET BALL. Shelby Hodge in search of the glass slipper. Photography Priscilla Dickson, Wilson Parish. F ew among the Houston Ballet cognoscenti were prepared for the unconventional welcome at this year's Ballet Ball: Ghostly costumed dancers from the company's avant-garde production of Cinderella held forth in eerie silence at the entrances to Wortham Theater Center's Grand Foyer — a brilliant reminder that the stunning, dark production would open in just a few days. In a nod to Cinderella, the Enchantment theme of the black-tie ball played out not only via the spirits from the graveyard scene of Stanton Welch's choreographed tale but also through a Camelot-esque castle setting orches- trated by Richard Flowers and The Events Company. Diane Lokey Farb underwrote the appearance of the wildly popular Atlanta-based band Party on the Moon for the second year, while the fund-raising aspect was covered by ball chairs Anne and Albert Chao and the honoree, long-time Houston Ballet patron Ann Trammell. Dashing Tenenbaum duo Tony Bradfield and Kevin Black did their share in boosting the evening's proceeds (which surpassed $1.1 million) by contributing a king's ransom in jewels for the silent auction. The dinner from City Kitchen won raves for its dreamy white asparagus veloute with poached salmon and truffles. Afterwards, the dancing went on into the wee morning hours — no midnight riches-to-rags or missing glass slippers here.
