T he Contemporary Arts Museum Houston's annual gala always perco- lates with artistic enthusiasm. This year, the addition of a Casa Dragones tequila bar meant impassioned bidding on the artworks and uninhibited dancing to the sounds of DJ Souljah — a spirited evening, in- deed. Co-chairs Ceron and Todd Fiscus (Fiscus owns event powerhouse Todd Events) contrib- uted to the merriment with a playful decor that all began with some whimsical egg- like sculptures that the couple owns, and Ceron's penchant for all things gold. Thus, mammoth gold-leafed eggshells wafted in the air-conditioned breeze above the par ty fray, and gilded palm fronds peppered the surroundings. Fiscus explained, "What came fi rst, the chicken or the egg? And then we thought, 'What came fi rst, the patron or the artist?'" Et voilà! A theme was hatched. Fellow co-chairs Kathryn and Colby Swain added a youthful note to a night commanded by art collector stalwarts and an equally important auction. Forty-three works in the silent auction lined the walls, while eight works went up for bid under the gavel of Christie's auctioneer Steve Zick of Chicago. By the fi nal bid, the night had enriched CAMH coffers by more than $480,000. A seated dinner by Jackson and Company rounded out the evening.
