OBSESSIONS. DECORATION. SALIENT FACTS. 16 A respected art advisor in Texas has added "jeweler" to her credentials. SMU and NYU grad Eleanor Williams served as a director at arts incubator Mixed Greens in New York and directed Houston trio Lawndale Art Center, Barbara Davis Gallery, and Finesilver Gallery before striking out on her own in 2 0 0 8 t o s l e u t h important painting, sculpture, video, and photography — from Basel to London, Paris to Venice — for a collector base of museum-trustee types. Now the savvy consultant brings her visual acumen and art-history knowledge to fine jewelry and accessories with the Gienia collection. She's partnered with another SMU grad, California- and Paris-based Jenny Augustyn, whose background complements Williams' trajectory: Augustyn has an MA in visual culture/costume studies from NYU; she served as studio manager for art titans Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen and co-produced Pretty Things, an HBO film about burlesque queens, with Hollywood royal Liz Goldwyn. Williams and Augustyn met in Rome during a college course in art history, and launched Gienia in 2015, after studying jewelry making at a luxury fashion house's atelier in Paris (name withheld). Their pieces meld a clean contemporary vibe — like the understated aesthetic of an Agnes Martin canvas — with the craftsmanship and detail of ancient Greco- Roman jewelry and the Victorian Era's opulent golden granulation. The workmanship is done in L.A. (with plans to add a Texas atelier), while the gems are sourced on trips around the globe, with a special fondness for Brazilian tourmalines, a reference to Williams' childhood there. Art of the Jewel T he Galleria has a number of new retail offerings: Opening this month are Italian powerhouse, Loro Piana in Galleria 1; shoe stops Sam Edelman and Guanajuato- based Cuadra; and men's and women's boutique Ted Baker London … Suitsupply has debuted its second Houston-area store at Market Street in The Woodlands. Pop in Wednesday through Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm, and Sunday, noon to 5 pm … The second installment of the Launch pop-up shop is open at 701 Avenida de las Americas near the George R. Brown Convention Center. The rotating pop-up showcases 10 to 12 local artisans, with products such as Anvil's Houston-inspired greeting cards, and vintage kimonos by Kimono Zulu. Launch will remain open through the end of the year. Jailyn Marcel B e t t e r L u c k T o m o r r o w has opened in the former Dry C r e e k C a f é space in the Heights at 544 Yale Street.
