34 LUCI LIGHTS THE WAY CELEBRATING A COOL AND ELECTRIFYING PHILANTHROPIC IDEA Shelby Hodge fl ips on the lights. Photography by Jay Tovar. L et there be light! That could have been the mantra of the cool crowd that gathered at new River Oaks hot spot Bosscat Kitchen + Libations. For this evening of food, drink, and philanthropy, Direct Energy and PaperCity teamed up to show the love for the energy provider's philanthropic Luci Lights campaign. Luci Lights are the practical — and absolutely adorable — solar-powered, infl atable, and waterproof lights that provide much-needed lumens to people in the developing world. Every time a Direct Energy customer signs up for the Give Brighter 12 plan, that person receives a Luci Light, and another is sent across the globe to someone with no access to electric power. "The program is doing incredibly well," said Cullen Hay, Direct Energy's general manager, US Energy, noting that 35,000 Luci Lights have already made their way to those in need of illumination. PaperCity has adopted Direct Energy's Luci Lights campaign as its Corporate Outreach Initiative of the year — and the party brought it all together. To ensure that no one in this crowd was left in the dark, a score of Luci Lights, which shine for up to 12 hours, lined the bar and perimeter of the lively saloon. Fueling the party engine were Moscow Mules and the eatery's signature cocktail, The Bosscat. BRILLIANT CHAIRS: Lindley and Jason Arnoldy, Lauren and Max Barrett, Christine Falgout and Bill Gutknecht, Kimberly Falgout and E van Scheele, and Claire Cormier-Thielke and Rick Thielke. LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT: Direct Energy's Jackie Effenson, J.P. Campione, Jayesh Shah; as well as Heidi Kashani, Neekie Kashani, Daniel Wang, Anna Domning, Valerie and Tracy Dieterich, Gabriela and Gary Gerhart, Gaynell Drexler, Allison Smith, Yvonne and Rufus Cormier, Kathy Ong, and Leslie Lopez.
