20 THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM ROTHKO CHAPEL SALUTES TWO DYNAMIC WOMEN FROM DIFFERENT WORLDS. Shelby Hodge ties it all together. Photography Jenny Antill Clifton. F or only the third fund-raising evening in its four-decade history, Dominique de Menil's revered Rothko Chapel honored two exceptional women: Rothko Cultural Ambassador and international doyenne Lynn Wyatt and polit- ical activist and human rights advocate Sissy Farenthold. "We wait to have events until we have a very good reason to have them," said gala co-chair Christopher Rothko, chapel board chair (and Mark Rothko's son). "We have two fabulous honorees tonight. These are women who are truly worth celebrating. And we also have the opportunity to give a few Houstonians a sneak peek at our plans for the next few years, leading up to our 50th anniversary [in 2021]. So it's really a very special night for us." During the gathering at The Astorian, he and chapel executive director David Leslie shared an early look at improvements imagined in the Rothko master plan, created by Architecture Research Office of New York. TRUE BELIEVERS: Rothko's fellow co-chairs, his wife Lori Cohen and Gayle and Mike DeGeurin; emcee Melanie Lawson; and guests Tatiana and Craig Massey, Fairfax Dorn, Kate Rothko Prizel, James Tiebout, Bennie Flores Ansell, Robert Shelton, Susu and Robert Ross, Thomas Cohen, Joyce Echols and Steve Wyatt, Mark Sullivan, and Gigi Huang.
