T h e masterfully hand-painted chinoiserie wallpaper is gracing the pages of Vogue via fashion spreads, backdrops at the Met Gala, and, most recently, lampshades, shoes, and even dressing robes. Edgardo Osorio, co- founder and designer of the Italian shoe label Aquazzura, collaborated with de Gournay on a five-piece capsule collection of flats, slides, pumps, mules, and loafers. Osorio was inspired to create the custom WALLPAPER COMPANY DE GOURNAY COVERS NEW TERRITORY. OFF THE BY REBECCA SHERMAN Tropical Chinoiserie collection, Amazonia, after de Gournay installed wallpaper in his Florence apartment. The motif — a hand- painted depiction of a rainforest within the heart of the city — references several of de Gournay's own collections, as well as 19th- century botanical illustrations and the florid work of artist Juan Gatti collected by Osorio. Set against a pink background, toucans, parrots, lovebirds, and macaws alight on palm trees, surrounded by flowers, butterflies, monkeys, and serpents, all rendered entirely by hand. The shoes bear a digital print of the original h a n d - p a i n t e d artwork, and are sold exclusively o n m a t c h e s f a s h i o n . com, starting at $443. Aquazzura for de Gournay is also available as wallpapered panels, starting at $1,936 (Osorio loved them so much that he installed them in the Florentine palazzo, which serves as his offices).
