HOUSTON PAPERCITY DESIGN AWARDS WITH DECORATIVE CENTER HOUSTON T he annual Houston PaperCity Design Awards elicited 291 outstanding entries across 18 categories. Our panel of judges — designers Martyn Lawrence Bullard, Katie Ridder, and Mark D. Sikes, and architect Peter Pennoyer (see more about the judges on page 92) — sifted through more than 2,000 images of impressive projects and had some very difficult choices to make. Verdicts were reached. A multifaceted celebration was held Monday, May 15, in a beautiful space in West Avenue, designed by Richard Flowers, The Events Company. The awards celebration kicked off the inaugural Texas Design Week Houston — 31 speakers from across the country and six days of design and art panel discussions, salons, product launches, book signings, and cocktail celebrations in West Avenue and across Houston. The evening began with cocktails and bites from Canopy, followed by the Design Awards presentation, with honors bestowed by judges Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Mark D. Sikes. Christofle's Houston general manager, Fausto Villeda, presented the winners with stunning Andrée Putman-designed silver trays. The celebration continued at the after-party, where Bullard and Sikes chatted with guests and signed their latest books. Herewith, we highlight the winning homes, restaurants, commercial spaces, gardens, offices, restorations, and products that impressed our judges, and what they had to say.
