In this case, a little remodeling was done to the Houston PaperCity Design Awards ceremony and celebration: A new venue was introduced, and the party served as the kickoff for the inaugural Texas Design Week Houston. Gables West Avenue served as TXDW HQ, with a stunning event venue designed by Richard Flowers of The Events Company. Intricate white French panels and boxwood topiary lined the walls of a fortuitously (and temporarily) vacant commodious space in the West Avenue shopping mecca. Designers, architects, and other design-savvy guests chatted with L.A. designers Martyn Lawrence Bullard and Mark D. Sikes, two of this year's four Design Awards judges, who were in town to present the awards. Other judges were New York designer Katie Ridder and architect Peter Pennoyer, who sifted through 291 entries in 18 categories. See pages TK through TK for all the winning projects. Christofle's Houston general manager, Fausto Villeda, presented the winners with Andrée Putman-designed Christofle silver trays as breathtaking images of the winning projects filled the big screen. The revelry continued post-ceremony, with bites from Canopy catering, cocktails from Deep Eddy Vodka, and wines courtesy Duchman Family Winery and Fall Creek Vineyards.
