30 WE'RE HEAD OVER GLAMOROUS HEELS FOR WICKEDLY WITTY POP-ART PHENOM ASHLEY LONGSHORE — AND WHY SOME PEOPLE WE KNOW WILL NEVER GET INTO THE GARDEN CLUB By Lisa Collins Shaddock. Photography Tamytha Cameron Smith. G iant champagne corks, super-sized lollipops, and candy necklaces, all layered in piles throughout For Home Forty Five Ten … It felt as if we had fallen down a rabbit hole into the zany, wickedly witty world of artist Ashley Longshore — and, truth be told, we still don't know if we've come back down to earth. Fans packed into the Knox-Henderson store for the artist's first pop-up gallery to see her Insta-famous works live. DJ Lucy Wrubel even took a break from turning up the volume to snag a sparkling piece of her own. With a wink, she told us it was either that or a new car. We would have gone with the Longshore, too. In the T Room, guests sipped Don't Tell Mama Martinis, a mixologist's dream concoction of Zephyr Gin, rose vermouth, velvet falernum, and bitters. In the gallery room, a Mad Hatter's tiered tower offered sparkly, hand-painted macarons by We the Birds alongside giant plastic pills. Longshore, in a dramatic gold-sequined robe, charmed guests with a personality to match her artwork: bold, larger-than-life, and insanely fun — with a generous dash of glitter. Guests bid big on a bedazzled Veuve Clicquot Jeroboam by Longshore to raise money for the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, while we busied ourselves making a shopping list. In no order of preference, we must have the following: One Lucite tray stamped with the motto "No whiskey, no weed, no wildness" … a copy of Longshore's book You Don't Look Fat, You Look Crazy … a limited- edition Mark Cross bag hand-painted by Longshore — particularly the orange one with Frida … and a massive painting depicting a splattering of multicolored pills, and a black AmEx, emblazoned with "She took a Xanax, stole his AmEx and bought everything." But the one that stole our heart was a painting with the inscription "You will never get into the Garden Club because you are a big fat hoe." We can think of at least a few ladies in attendance who've thought this.
