W hen PaperCity co-owner and editor-in-chief Holly Moore and I were asked to host a small dinner for menswear designer John Varvatos on the heels of his NorthPark Center store opening, there was just one request: Bring a fun, boisterous bunch. (Oh, and they also said it wouldn't hurt if we kicked off the evening with a tequila-shot toast. Done and done.) We knew the perfect place: the legendary Javier's, known for its heavy-duty margaritas, elegant Mexican cuisine, and moody party scene. When invitations were sent, replies came in fast and furious. Dearest JV, you have many devoted Dallas fans. Even those who couldn't attend sent sobbing regrets. "I hate to miss this!" wrote one. "Half my closet is Varvatos!" For those 40 who made it, it was indeed a tequila-fueled dinner that began with Bill Hutchinson raising a shot glass in toast to his new friend, and ended with a sizable contingent of late-nighters (we hear our beloved PaperCity party boys on the town Billy Fong and Filippo Tattoni-Marcozzi were the ringleaders) moving from Javier's to take on the Dallas bar scene.
