In the edgy roundup: Tinker Hatfield- signed Nike Air Mag sneakers, doll-sized sculptures by none other than KAWS, and canvases and graphics by street talents UNDERFOOT L ondon–based fashion designer Christopher Kane popped into Dallas recently for an elegant dinner at The Rug Company to introduce his first rug collection. Kane's Scottish roots were top of mind, when a kilt-wearing bagpiper arrived during dessert. On the sartorial side, Kane is known for his elegantly playful womenswear — the luxury group Kering purchased a majority stake in the label in 2013 — and now the fun continues underfoot. Kane's five handcrafted rugs for The Rug Company are inspired by his Scottish heritage and lifelong fascination with botanicals. Grid Construct and Wave Construct take cues from the constructivism movement made famous by Scottish architect and artist Charles Rennie Mackintosh; while Botanical Anatomy shows an intersected carnation reminiscent of vintage scientific flower diagrams, and is the same design Kane once emblazoned on sweatshirts.
