63 A year ago, when a dear friend told me she had been spending more time in Bermuda (something to do with a handsome gent), my first thought was: Ahem, what about that godforsaken — mythical? — triangle? But, this being one of my most stylish gal pals, I listened with trust to her stories of glassy water and a small-town setting peppered with hints of wealth, a quiet money typically reserved for island life, à la Harbour Island and Mustique. A month after our conversation, Bermuda played host to America's Cup — the international yacht race, which draws natty types from all over the world for a week of elite seaside activity. I started thinking: Could Bermuda be the jet-set's new high- powered hideaway of choice? It appears that way. And in April, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts answered with its newly reimagined Rosewood Bermuda. The $25 million project was no small task: Dawson Design Associates (W Hotel Los Angeles West Beverly Hills; Hotel 1000 in Seattle) took on a complete redesign of the hotel's 92 guest rooms and suites, plus its lobby; London-based interior designer Alexander Waterworth (he designed a portion of the new Annabel's club in London) oversaw design of the hotel's restaurants and bars, including Island Brasserie, Tucker's Bar, and the Beach Club and Golf Clubhouse. While the plethora of new culinary spots, refreshed spa, and elevated Beach Club are all worth a flight from Texas to Bermuda, it's one recently revealed detail that has me convinced that Bermuda has reached It-status: Shortly after its reopening, Rosewood announced a collaboration with Aerin Lauder — businesswoman and heiress to her grandmother, Estée Lauder's, beauty empire. Aerin, who runs her namesake collections of beauty products, has created her first hotel amenity line, exclusively for Rosewood Bermuda. BERMUDA ON THE BRAIN WANDERINGS BY CHRISTINA GEYER BY LINDEN WILSON I f ever there was a glamorous new place to dock your yacht, it's the Caribbean's new see-and-be-seen spot, Baha Mar — a sprawling $4.2 billion compound on Nassau's New Providence coastline. Consider this a playground for the über-wealthy — and perhaps for those not opposed to showing it off. Baha Mar's playground for the upper-crust continues with a 100,000-square-foot casino; art gallery; and a Jack Nicklaus-designed golf course, where Tiger Woods was spotted during our stay. Should you trade yacht for mainland, there is no end to cloistered white-sand beaches, or for a bit more privacy, we suggest an open-air cabana at the invite-only Privilege Pool, available exclusively to SLS guests.
