55 "IT FELT LIKE THE WORK WAS NEVER WORK, AND IT WAS MAGICALLY JUST FORMING ITSELF INTO EXISTENCE." — Michael Viviano Vintage design books that inspire I'm old enough now that my two favorite go-to textbooks from college are vintage: Furniture Past and Present: A Com- plete Illustrated Guide to Furniture Styles from Ancient to Modern by Louise Ade Boger; and The Kitchen Book, by Terence Conran. Best white paint Benjamin Moore's Decorator White for a clean, crisp white; and their White Dove for a creamier palette. Best trips for gazing at great design. I love driving past the Roscoe Wind Farm in Roscoe, Texas for the way industrial design meets the landscape. It has a strong, quiet beauty that calms the soul. The Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC. is filled with American innovation and architectural grandeur, and I find visiting Colonial Wil- liamsburg to be a great lesson in simple architecture and functional interior design. I use the original colors from the Williamsburg Collection often. In Harcrow's bedroom are an Italian leather chair, vintage French bedside tables from Galerie Novella. Lamp from W. Gardner Ltd. Custom bed linens with fabric from Libeco and Fortuny. Lime plaster wall with hand-applied gold wash. Materials from Domingue Architectural Finishes. (continued)
