116 A DAY OF DESIGN DESIGN IN BLOOM BRINGS A CROP OF TOP DESIGNERS By Anne Lee Phillips. Photography Daniel Ortiz. D ay two of Texas Design Week Houston was a perfect spring day, where designers, gardeners, and those who love them turned out for Design in Bloom with Flower Magazine, a full day of programming at The Houston Design Center. The morning kicked off at Leisure Collections showroom, with coffee, breakfast, and a lively panel discussion with interior designer Bunny Williams, architect Jeffrey Dungan, floral designer Ariella Chezar, and garden designer P. Allen Smith, moderated by Flower Magazine founder Margot Shaw. In solidarity, the panel agreed that every designer should learn to draw; it will help you see your project. Breakout sessions, a lovely catered lunch, and book signings followed. Dungan, in from Birmingham, spoke about his work and new book, The Nature of Home: Creating Timeless Houses (Rizzoli). Chezar, in from New York, gave a flower-arranging presentation, discussed her flower farm, Zonneveld Farm in upstate New York, and signed copies of her new book, Seasonal Flower Arranging: Fill Your Home with Blooms, Branches, and Foraged Materials All Year Round (Ten Speed Press). Smith, in from Arkansas, gave an appetizing presentation from his book P. Allen Smith's Seasonal Recipes from the Garden (Clarkson Potter). Design doyenne Williams, in from Connecticut, gave a talk to a packed house, her first appearance with her new book Love Affairs with Houses (Abrams).
