42 POWER PLAYERS SHELBY HODGE JOINS THE PARTY. PHOTOGRAPHY NATHAN COLBERT. P art fashion frolic and part inspirational discourse, this champagne-infused fête in Akris' sleek River Oaks District boutique drew on the empowerment of women. And who better to share insights on their brilliant careers than Invesco portfolio manager Kristy Bradshaw, Houston dermatologist to the elite Dr. Jennifer Segal, interior designer Lucinda Loya, and Akris' Marcie Haley, VP marketing. Perched on stools in the boutique, the ladies were queried by PaperCity's Francine Ballard, who led them on an entertaining and mindful dialogue covering design, finance, wellness, and empowerment. Key to the discussion was Haley's observation that Akris, founded by Alice Kriemler-Schoch in Switzerland in 1922, focuses on fashion as empowerment, not vanity. "As modern women, we have to be armed for the day," Haley said — that armament coming in the form of beautifully tailored clothing made from the finest fabrics. POWER DRESSERS: Neekie Kashani, Claudia Contreras, Lindley Arnoldy, Tracy Larner, Akris Houston boutique manager Jessica Bustillos, Isabel David, Anne Lee Phillips, Monica Bickers, Christine Falgout, Jo Lynn Falgout, Estela Cockrell, and Luvi Wheelock.
