44 MAD HATTERS SHELBY HODGE IS FASCINATED. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON. T he swans, how they flocked around the beautiful fountains of Hermann Park's McGovern Centennial Gardens before gliding to a party tent for the annual Hats in the Park Luncheon. Few among the fashionable flock dared arrive sans the requisite chapeau, and thus the tableau was a virtual garden of ladies in flower-adorned headgear. For his part, Mayor Sylvester Turner stepped out in a dapper porkpie hat, while co-chair Kelley Young opted for a fascinator, and co-chair Laura Wareing Wheless took the wide-brimmed route. Champagne flowed. Air kisses, only slightly hindered by broad brims, prevailed. By the time City Kitchen's divine scones, chocolate truffles, and sandies had been consumed, the luncheon had raised more than $425,000 for park programs.
