Brandon Cochran T he Houston Symphony���s Opening Night Gala, its most successful ever, featured an orchestral classic ��� Ravel���s dramatic Bolero performed at Jones Hall ��� followed by a Spanish-infused seated dinner skillfully orchestrated by Jackson and Company at The Corinthian. Chairs Linda and Gene Dewhurst and co-chairs Fran Fawcett Peterson and Gloria Tenenbown presided over the delightful Iberian revelry, which began maestro���s Hans Graf���s 12th and final season, while it also inaugurated the approaching Symphony���s centennial year (set for 2013-2014). The gala���s name, ���A Perfect Evening,��� toasted honorary chair and patroness supreme Margaret Williams for her continued benevolence towards the Symphony and the larger Houston arts scene, while Susan and Larry Kellner were also honored for their generosity towards art and educational initiatives in the city. Darryl Murchison���s Spanish garden decor and Richard Brown Orchestra���s always timeless performance reinforced the festivity of the night. All told, more than 450 se��ors, se��oras and se��oritas came together to raise funds for the Symphony���s muchheralded education program, Music Matters! Show-stopping jewels carried the day at Valobra Jewelry & Antiques, where store owner Franco Valobra, and manager Beatrice Bornibus welcomed time-honored customers in from the cold to ooh and aah over the 2013 Cristina Valobra collection. Precious ones: Mary Ann and David McKeithan, Jo Walker, Rosemarie Johnson, Stephanie Cockrell, Donna and John Speer, Kathy Rovere, Tami Ernst, and Carol Hunton. It was all about the young, sleek and cool when designer Kendra Scott inaugurated her Rice Village store. Legions of loyal fans flocked to snap up her baubles, amongst the tasty bites and sexy beats.
