It began with the swell Alex Papachristidis, whose The Age of Elegance showcases his indulged classical aesthetic. Sheri and Grant Roane and Houston Design Center hosted the dapper designer, with a talk and lunch at Alkusari showroom, where the design contingent turned out to hear the PaperCity DesignLab panel ��� Alex P. himself, designers Randy Powers and Julie Dodson, and PaperCity���s Kate Stukenberg, Laurann Claridge, and Holly Moore ��� wax poetic over the biz of design. Taking notes: Elizabeth Satel Young, Lynne T. Jones, Ruth Davis, Missy Stewart, Brenda Siebert, Jan McMilan, Tom Alkusari, Sally Stewart, Diana Walker, Garlaine Kelly, Denzil Hollingsworth, Chris Loew, Sandra Smith, and Bee Morrow. Julie Dodson hosted a cocktail for Mr. P. at Sandra and Lyle Eastham���s beautiful Memorialarea home, which Dodson recently designed. Finally, Mr. P.���s great friend, designer Ann Wolf, hosted him for a two-night stay, with the second culminating in a book signing and cocktail that brought together an enviable clutch of close chums. The premise is irresistible: Those who possess the finer things can sell coveted items either for their value or for credit toward anything in the Designer Social inventory ��� think treasures by Proenza Schouler, Valentino, Chloe, Balenciaga, Lanvin, Prada, Marni, Christian Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, among others. Sloan/Hall proprietors Marcus Sloan and Shannon Hall welcomed Ballard, an alum of such fashion monthlies as InStyle and Lucky, to their retail Mecca, while guests enjoyed cocktails and light bites from Armandos.
