The biennial black-tie f��te, which celebrates Rice���s athletic achievements, has to date raised more than $5 million for Rice University Athletics. More than 400 enthusiastic fans convened at the River Oaks Country Club to honor the recipients of the Distinguished Owl Awards: Rice alum Karen George, Betty and Bob Bixby, and Jim Crownover. Co-chairs Cynthia and Bucky Allshouse and Linda and Walter McReynolds presided over the revel, which also commemorated the endowment of a $50,000 athletic scholarship by Janice and Bob McNair.
