The faux bois wallpaper is by French company Nobilis; it's one the designer likes to put his spin on. "It comes in rolls, and we cut it into horizontal and vertical strips," he says. "Then it's découpaged onto the walls so that it looks like wood planks and, in some areas, like parquet. It takes weeks to hang that paper, but it's a dynamic look." The lacquered raffia coffee table is where all the action happens, as the family gathers each night to play backgammon. "They are old souls," Powers says of his clients, who are also fond of garden parties and croquet on the lawn. "They live so beautifully, it's like they're stepping out of a Slim Aarons book." 63
