F ebruary began with two evenings of celebration for the opening of the Nasher Sculpture Center's Ken Price solo show. Nasher director Jeremy Strick and his lovely wife Wendy Strick hosted an intimate reception for the opening, with guests Christen and Derek Wilson, Debbie and Eric Green, and Cindy Rachofsky. The next evening, close to 900 art-world patrons convened to celebrate Price, one of the most important sculptors of the 20th century, whose show was dubbed "spectacular" by The New York Times and "dazzling" by Time magazine. In agreement: Franklin Parrasch, John Morace, Marla Prather, Diane Boddy, Jeanne Klein, and Stanley Baumblatt. For the next art affair, I found myself furiously texting with one of our busiest bees, Capera Ryan, about our crammed social schedules and the Dallas Contemporary house party for which she was honorary chair, Phenomenon 2013, featuring artist Dzine and his Kustom Kulture artistic vision, i.e., lowrider car display. The DC's annual fund-raiser (does everyone recall the fabulously fun night last year for Shepard Fairey, chaired by the Agather girls?) always draws an electric mix of old guard and the snappy 20-something set. Committee chairs Laura Noble, Kristie Ramirez, and JonBernard Schwartz, as well as the tracks spun by legendary DJ Derrick Carter, kept everyone on the dance floor. My outfit to attempt youth: Rag & Bone hooded parka, vintage Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt, Club Monaco green cashmere hoodie, Band of Outsiders skinny khaki trousers and Belstaff boots. Feeling phenomenal: Muffin Lemak, Tammy and Will Hartnett, Cindy Lefferts, Joanne and Mark Giambrone, Melanie Spiegel, Nicole Musselman, Michelle Moussa, Karla McKinley, John Relton, and Carol Riddick. The week was capped off with the Dallas Museum of Art's Marc Chagall exhibition. The centerpiece of this glorious show was a display of costumes made by the artist in 1942 for the production of the ballet Aleko, choreographed by Léonide Massine and set to the music of Tchaikovsky's Piano Trio in A Minor. The cocktail reception and preview was an equally colorful affair, with guests John and Jennifer Eagle, Fanchon and Howard Hallam, Louise Eiseman, Catherine Rose, Cece and Ford Lacey, John Reoch, and Margaret McDermott.
