The gifted young writer encouraged everyone to "rock what you've got" — not coincidentally, the title of her first book. "Laughter is really the best gift you can give yourself in times of tribulation," she suggests. Local jewelry designer Elizabeth Showers' own commitment to the cause earned her this year's Star of Hope award — appropriately enough, many of her pieces incorporate her own "hope star." Rocking out: Hannah Moore, Caroline Cook, Alvin Wade, Naomi Pevsner, Paula Cain, Paul MacDowell, Liza Wagley, Tanya Foster, Kristi Hoyl, and Barenda Hino. Lacy Ball
