One Glorious Green Evening, Indeed An allée of live oaks illuminated by green light, a beckoning party tent and 500 beautiful, benevolent revelers promenading beneath a canopy of stars made for a perfect evening at Discovery Green's biennial Gala on the Green, chaired with great aplomb by Phoebe and Bobby Tudor. Party planners Ward & Ames, Richard Flowers' The Events Company, McDugald Steele, Jackson and Company (crafting a divine duck entree) and presenting sponsor H-E-B came together to concoct a glamorous alfresco fête. Show band Party on the Moon was in from Atlanta to perform après dinner, while L.A.-based crooner Jennifer Lynn and DJ Shee graced the cocktail hour. Late night, the Absinthe Lounge, adjoining the tented Jones Lawn, made for a clubby finale, with cigarette girls brandishing sweets. But nothing was as sweet as the bottom line: $1.47 million for Houston's favorite downtown park.
