BHLD Luvi Wheelock JENNY ANTILL Bridal Buzz What's New in the Wedding Whirl The Byrd Collective Austin-based floral designer Ashley Bailey with The Byrd Collective sets up studio at BHLDN in Highland Village Friday, June 29, 10 am to 7 pm, to create her famously lush and romantic arrangements for purchase that day. Bailey conceived her unique floral-design studio The Byrd Collective while working as director of events at the Savannah College of Art & Design, after stylish stints in NYC with David Monn and in Houston at Bergner & Johnson and PaperCity. Besides crafting irresistible arrangements from garden roses, herbs, dahlias, clematis, and more, she will host an interactive tutorial, complete with sips and sweets, to help brides translate their inspirations and budgets into a plan. Seating is limited for this gratis tutorial, so make reservations now by e-mailing cwalker@bhldn.com. And if you can't make it to BHLDN this month, Bailey will be back on Saturday, July 29. 4056 Westheimer Road, 713.599.1917; bhldn.com. Kate Allen Stukenberg Luvi's Lucky Seven Boutique owner Luvi Wheelock has a lot to be excited about these days. Her bridal boutique, Casa de Novia, celebrates seven years in business, making it (believe it or not) the oldest bridal store in town. Her designer shop, Atrium, is a go-to shopping spot for the social set, and now she's opened the one-and-only Vera Wang Bridal store-within-a-store in Texas. Kate Allen Stukenberg sits down with the chic and lovely Luvi to chat Vera, bridal do's and don'ts, and, shhhh, Khloe K. Trinity of Pearls Cartier introduced its famed Trinity ring in 1924, and ever since, the trio of white-, yellow- and rose-gold intertwined bands (symbolizing, respectively, friendship, fidelity and love) have inspired myriad designs through the decades within this storied French house. Now Cartier has re-envisioned the traditional Trinity bands with its rare collection of luminous pearls in shades of white, violet, gray, gold and even palest orange, chosen for their subtle pigments, perfect shapes and satiny luster. Named Trinity Pearls, The famed atelier has suspended, threaded and dropped these stunning treasures from the sea into curvaceous diamond pavé Trinity rings, drop earrings, bracelets and shimmering pendants, mingling the gleaming orbs with the signature trinity of harmonious shades of gold. Vera Wang really believes in that. You see the colors on the wall, the charcoal — everything in that room is to Vera Wang's standards. If you walk into a Vera Wang store in New York or Chicago, it will look very similar to this one. It makes you feel like you're in a Vera Wang world. It has separate dressing rooms and mirrors for the complete experience. Blushing Brides White's not the only color in the modern bride's repertoire. Jenny Antill and Catherine D. Anspon 2 KAS: Vera Wang has evolved over the years. LV: Absolutely it has! Here's the thing about her: She's not afraid of anything. She's the only bridal designer who gets Anna Wintour in her front row, and that's pretty cool. 1 1. LW: They should come in with an idea of what they want to wear on their wedding day, but they need to let someone guide them. Often, a brideto-be will point at a gown and say, "This is the one," but when they try it on, it doesn't look great. You obviously want to choose something that flatters your figure, so be open to guidance. I think the most important thing about this store is that you get immaculate service. We're very serious about that. LW: Trumpet — and trumpet. It's a popular style and looks good on a lot of ladies. A–line and ball gowns are a little more difficult because you have to be pretty tall to carry them off. For a beach wedding, it's important to wear something breezy that breathes. Satin is not meant for the beach, girls! KAS: The perfect wedding shoe? LW: For me, right now, it'd have to be a platform because it's more comfortable, and it helps if you're short. KAS: Any suggestions for brides as to what kind of jewelry to wear? LW: Less is more, so make it a great pair of earrings and call it a day. A lot of girls do the earrings, the necklace, a bracelet — and, please, don't wear a watch on your wedding day! Let someone else be worried about the time. KAS: What's your most popular dress these days? LW: That's a hard question. Each designer I carry has their own look, so there is a best seller among each. We have sold quite a few of Khloe Kardashian's dress … but don't tell anyone that!
