M SocialWhirl Billy Fong Sez ... y dearest Brooke has posed to me that I should offer my thoughts for men's style for June. As much I could stand on my soap box and proclaim that a Carolina Herrera canaryyellow gown is the must have for girls in the know this season, discussing men's fashion is slightly trickier. Boys can't simply wear a statement piece; they need to have a full look and, in my opinion, a soundtrack to follow them around. A super-swell set of wheels and a long-leggy brunette named Jocasta also wouldn't hurt in completing a look appropriate for any invitation – clam digging or yacht hopping in St. Tropez. Thankfully the preppy aesthetic has had a moment in the sun again the past few seasons, and those who shop at Brooks Brothers, like myself, are incredibly blissful. The trick is not taking it too literally and giving it a twist. No matter what, it's about owning your personal style and not letting the clothes wear you. I have had to set up a few interventions for girlfriends who have fallen prey to the "page 18" problem. In essence, they have purchased and worn every item from a page in the J.Crew catalog. You don't want to seem pulled right from the photo shoot in Martha's Vineyard. But, I digress. Back to Boys. So, for the season ahead load up on the following: versions, since they are perfect under a blazer or thrown over your Vilebrequin swim trunks after doing laps at someone's well-appointed weekend retreat in the Malibu Colony. I always favor yellow in case someone suggests a game of croquet, so that I match for a few games of bubbly and balls. Michael Kors has opened its second store in Houston, this one in Memorial City Mall. This shopping destination is having a renaissance itself, with 150 shops and restaurants, all connected to the Westin Memorial City, Memorial Hermann Medical Center and several office towers via skybridges. Larry Horton, back from New York, has joined MetroNational, which owns Memorial City Mall, as VP of retail. Next in Horton's bag of tricks: "Think Madison Ave." … New at the Galleria: New York's iconic Fifth Avenue shopping spot Henri Bendel opens a 2,000-square-foot boutique at the Galleria, next to the Apple Store, on June 22. Look for Bendel–branded handbags, jewelry and gifts … Everything But Water has opened a super-stylish boutique in Galleria I on the second floor, next door to Ed Hardy. The space is outfitted in gray driftwood and scene-setting photography, which makes it feel like a spa boutique at an island resort. We're Obsessed with The Surrey Hotel J ust knowing The Surrey hotel in New York is the exclusive hotel partner for the Whitney Biennial 2012 made me want to stay there. When I learned Houston-based starchitectdesigner Lauren Rottet designed the extensive redo, it sealed the deal. I went, I stayed, I fell in love. Let me count the ways. 1. A massive photograph of Kate Moss by Chuck Close dominates the lobby. 2. Daniel Boulud does room service. 3. Le Bilboquet is down the street. The salons and suites (not rooms) are all large, cloaked in cool grays and whites, some with fireplaces, soaking tubs or terraces. And all have Duxiana beds and Waterworks fixtures. Built in 1926, The Surrey was home to Claudette Colbert, JFK, Bette Davis and now Kate Moss — or at least the mammoth photograph of her.
