M ixing cocktails with fabulous shopping has always been the calling card for the Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon and Fashion Show. The fall kickoff for the annual Leukemia & Lymphoma Society fundraiser, held at the charming Lela Rose boutique in Highland Park Village, included specialty cocktails and light bites from the Lela Rose cookbook. Thirty- five well-heeled guests mingled in the Village courtyard outside the Lela Rose boutique to hear the exciting details about the annual fundraiser. This year's honorees are Susie Barnett, recipient of the Lynda Adleta Heart of Gold Award; blood cancer battler Amelia Dammen, recipient of the Spirit of Tom Landry Award; and the late Tom Landry himself, recipient of the Memorial Hero Award. Clinking cocktail glasses to cheer the upcoming occasion were kickoff party co-chairs Elsa Norwood and Katherine Coker; luncheon and fashion show chair Lisa Loy Laughlin, with husband Kendall, and advisory chairs Maggie Kipp, Nancy Gopez, and Melinda Knowles; LLS executive director Leah Swanson; Lela Rose manager Jessica Smotherman; as well as Mike Barnett, Lynn McBee, Jan Strimple, Amy Turner, Nikki Webb, Lindsay Jacaman, Rachel Michell, Cathleen Griffith, Wendy Messman, Regina Bruce, and Arden Elis. What everyone didn't find out until early this year is that the 2022 event will be held in May, thanks to COVID waylaying yet more party plans. The 38th annual Saint Valentine's Day Luncheon and Fashion Show takes place Monday, May 16, at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center with a champagne reception, awards ceremony, and runway show of Highland Park Village fashions, produced by couture doyen Jan Strimple. "While the date has changed," says Laughlin, "we are so grateful to all of our partners for ensuring that event elements will remain the same at our later date." Since its founding close to 40 years ago, the annual event has raised more than $13.4 million to fund blood cancer research in Texas.
