Sabah El Paso Baba reflects the location of Sabah's new U.S. workshop — previously, all production took place in Gaziantep, Turkey — and the El Paso Baba is the first style produced there. It sold out online within three hours, with a wait list for the next go-round. Sabah began in 2013, with Dallas native Mickey Ashmore selling the handmade leather shoes, inspired by traditional Turkish slippers, out of his East Village apartment in New York. Today, there are five retail locations worldwide, including o n e i n D a l l a s . Three years in the making, the new factory in El Paso was envisioned as a place to experiment with groundbreaking m e t h o d s a n d materials, such as vegetable tanning and upcycled denim. The El Paso team consists of former cowboy-boot makers, so rest assured, they k n o w t h e i r w a y around rich leathers.
