40 A nd just like that, it's September once again. Pardon the obvious reference to the reboot of the iconic SJP late- '90s, early-aughts fashion juggernaut HBO series, but it seems to mirror what occurs now in our lives. September appears when we least expect (our minds slightly muddled from the Ranch Waters we've imbibed pool-side all summer). It's time to gather confidantes, consult our Smythsons, and stare at our wardrobes to search for the best version of ourselves to present at the slew (BTW, is there a more elegant way of saying too many to imagine) of events happening during these 30 days. Or maybe it's time for a new look — something that shows a little more skin than friends are used to seeing, or maybe a bold jacket in a vibrant shade of crimson that seems in opposition to our more neutral palette. Well, PaperCity has decided to try a new look, too. Our brilliant creative director, Michelle Aviña, and her talented graphics team have presented an issue where the features pop off the page. Bold flourishes abound. You'll find stories on restaurants such as Clifton Club, whose gorgeous interiors will make you want to immediately call in a favor to secure a 7 pm res. Rebecca Sherman shares details about a 1974 Prairie-style building that was preserved and restored and rose like a phoenix to become a penthouse residence for a Houston couple with an enviable art collection. Especially interesting: It was designed by architect Karl Kamrath, who devoted his career to emulating the genius of Frank Lloyd Wright — in the case of this project, Wright's Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois. The fashion feature will leave you breathless with wanderlust for a Sazerac in the Big Easy. Shot at Maison de la Luz hotel and around New Orleans, the pages showcase the latest from Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Gucci and Akris. Ring up your stylist and order the vibrant purple Gucci silk taffeta coat with all-over silk embroidery — it can be yours for $55,000. (Continued on page 56)
