HOUSTON Art Notes I t's a super six this month. At Art League Houston L i f e t i m e a c h i e v e m e n t honors — and a retrospective e x h i b i t i o n — g o to Texas Southern University's Earlie Hudnall Jr., whose portraits of the people a n d p l a c e s t h a t characterize the African American experience in Houston move beyond the documentary to become compelling works of art. Paired with Hudnall are e t h e r e a l , p h o t o - based images, often printed on fabric imbued with meaning, by Texas Artist of the Year Leticia Huckaby. Don't miss this doubleheader (through December 3) … Speaking of photography, Anya Tish Gallery's FotoFest offerings include Dave McClinton's text- suffused portraits and Brooke DiDonato's s t a r t l i n g s c e n e s of domesticity starring a femi- nist housewife i n t h e b u f f (October 14 – November 12) … At The Menil Collection, photography is also in focus with potent self-portraits by Samuel Fosso; the artist casts himself in the guise of leaders and luminaries of black experience in the 20th century, from Angela Davis and Miles Davis to Muhammad Ali and Haile Selassie (through January 15) … A collage king and queen are highlighted at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston and David Shelton Gallery. At the CAMH, El Paso-born Troy Montes Michie's early-career survey presents his remarkable collage and sculptural assemblage, melding issues of Black, Latinx, and queer identities (through January 29) … Meanwhile, Kelly O'Connor, one of the leaders of the San Antonio art scene, unveils her latest collage manifesto at David Shelton Gallery in "Plunge Pools." O'Connor's solo pairs retro-images of bodies of water with geometric interventions into the picture place (through October 15) … Finally, catch Sarah Sudhoff's "Material Witness" at Ellio Fine Art.
