T exas Design Week kicked off with the a n n u a l H o u s t o n PaperCity Design Awards recognizing winning projects across 21 categories including residential interior design, historical restoration/preservation, commercial landscape design, and product design Cocktails flowed outside The Post Oak Hotel's Grand Ballroom, where the scene was abuzz with air-kisses and excited chatter — "It's like a reunion!" I heard more than once. The crowd made its way into the ballroom and settled in for the official awards presentation, led by PaperCity editor in chief Holly Moore, who stepped in as a last-minute master of ceremonies to take the place of Chicago designer Alessandra Branca who was unable to travel due to a fall the day before the awards. Each of the winners — selected out of hundreds of submissions — was presented with a sparkling award from Baccarat. Judges for this year's awards were designers Stephen Sills, Victoria Hagan, Young Huh, and Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson of Drake/Anderson, all from NYC.
