Letter from the Editor I pen this letter with my windows finally open, welcoming the first cool breezes of fall. Begone, SAD (seasonal affective disorder — I hate the heat). I'm also contemplating my outfit for tonight's Cattle Baron's Ball. It's one of my favorite events: I think of it as Brokeback Mountain Unplugged. Ranch hands as far as the eye can see, roaming the grounds of Southfork Ranch, with some cowgirls do-si- doing around in Partlow boots and Tom Ford denim dusters. I'm kicking myself for not scoring a cowboy hat from Thom Browne's Spring/Summer 2023 show for this evening. When you read this, it will be November. We'll be near the midpoint of Dallas' high social season. In this issue, you'll find the recap of some of our recent swellegant soirées; an elegant afternoon of Crystal Charity ball ladies swooning over Adam Lippes runway looks; an oh-so cutting-edge contemporary art event with one of our hometown football team's progeny as co-chair; and some fashiony fêtes including a Saks Fifth Avenue luncheon to prep everyone for TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art, and Brian Bolke's dinner toasting the launch of Foundrae in Residence at The Conservatory. Speaking of jewelry, besides these sparkly Bachendorf's pieces surrounding my letter, you can also flip to pages 66 through 69 to ogle more shiny baubles we've chosen for you — just in time for the holidays and your Christmas wish list. We suggest leaving those pages open so your partner might get an idea of what to gift you. Also in this issue, you'll find the absolutely precious story that my colleague, Rebecca Sherman, has written about one of Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek's most beloved full- time residents: Duncan. This precocious kitty cat roams the grounds of the grande dame hotel and can often be found in her plush bed by the valet station. As we continue through our bubbly party season, perhaps the top song of our shared playlist should be a classic, Madonna's "Vogue." The lyrics are an anthem for those of us doing the black-tie circuit: "ladies with an attitude … fellas that were in the mood." Hopefully the next time I bump into you at the bar, you'll "strike a pose … there's nothing to it." And I'll whisper in your ear, "Don't just stand there, let's get to it."
