S ometimes it just takes an old- fashioned game to snap you out of luncheon ennui. At the recent gathering brought together by TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art organizers and Saks Fifth Avenue, they added just that little touch: a vintage game to liven up the afternoon. Underneath all our g o rg e o u s c h a rg e r plates, we found bingo cards. More on that in a minute, though. It's that time of year, when TWO x TWO is around the corner. For newbies in town, it's the annual black-tie event that raises funds for both amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research, and art (specifically, the Dallas Museum of Art's contemporary art acquisitions). It's always a sell-out event, and tickets aren't really offered up — the usual glamorous suspects, both local and international, a smattering of beyond fashionable types, art-world denizens, and celebrities make up the guest list. TWO x TWO for AIDS and Art has evolved into a series of social events designed to highlight the efforts of amfAR and engage the arts community in Dallas and has become the largest fundraiser in the U.S. for amfAR. The event has raised more than $113 million in its 24-year history. This year's presenting sponsor, Saks Fifth Avenue, brought a special selection of gowns and accessories to town and invited anointed guests to lunch and look. Maybe something would catch their fancy to wear for the big night on Saturday, October 21 … Unfortunately, I missed much of the oohing and ahhhing over the frocks hung in the gallery-like spaces of the Rachofsky House (where TWO x TWO occurs).
