There's much news to report of significance, as heritage gallerist Inman Gallery prepares for a new space. The ADAA-member dealer remains open at Isabella Court before relocating to the former Station Museum space in 2025. More details in our December issue. End of an Era: Catch the final show at Deborah Colton Gallery's brick-and-mortar before the gallery (which has a quarter-century history) segues from a permanent space to Colton working as an independent dealer on national and Texas shows for artists she represents, including curating a Jonas Mekas film festival next July in Asbury Park. Colton is a gallerist with an international imprint — the first in Texas to show the new wave of avant- garde Chinese artists — and pairs a global vision with Houston-focused programming. She is known for championing Texas talents who are part of American art history, including the late Bert Long Jr., Jesse Lott, Dorothy Hood, Dick Wray, and Perry House, all showcased in her "Houston Foundations" exhibition series. Catch DCG's final exhibition for Houston painter Grayson Chandler, a master of organic Surrealism: "Migrations," co-presented at the gallery Annex (November 16 – January 11) and Jung Center (November 18 – December 22). Recent Arrivals: This month and next, we salute newcomers who are adding energy and vision to our scene. Stay tuned for profiles of Gabriela Monterroso's Monterroso Gallery holding court — with an artist residency — in a historic Isabella Court space and Southern Kindness, Magen Pastor's exciting entrée on Commerce Street, with a focus on female- identifying talents paired with a unique stable and cool Galveston and Round Top presence … Recommended: Discover artist/ writer/curator/publisher Adam Marnie's F gallery. Marnie, a Bard College MFA grad, is cerebral, art-smart, and a quiet yet respected force among the new-garde Texas cognoscenti. He presents a powerful program from the modest West End ranch-style residence he shares with his wife, senior CAMH curator Rebecca Matalon, blocks from Josh Pazda Hiram Butler gallery. The latter hosted this summer's 10th-anniversary exhibition for talents featured in Marnie's indie fave F Magazine, including the iconic Mark Flood. (Marnie has also published a small-edition group of Flood prints, which in-the-know collectors have snapped up.) On view now at F is "5 Women," which presents one singular work by Houston notables, all MFAH Core Program alumni: Amy Blakemore, Jillian Conrad, Dana Frankfort, Francesca Fuchs, Katrina Moorhead (through November 3), followed by a solo for Rice faculty member Eli Greene, whose practice employs photography to evoke memory and time (November 17 – January 12.) fmagazine.info/exhibitions … Finally, place the Ramona Residency on your radar. Founded by artist Sarah Sudhoff, this unique residency — which is fiscally sponsored by Fresh Arts — is dedicated, Sudhoff says, "to amplifying the voices and creative practice of artist mothers by creating opportunities and resources to balance motherhood and making." The venue, a Victorian-era cottage tucked into the historic Sixth Ward, adds to the residency's down-home vibe. Each artist can bring her family and forge a creative retreat from two to four weeks, with its finale an exhibition with works for sale. To date, the Ramona has presented three Texas talents: Cassie Arnold, Megan Harrison, a n d B e a t r i z Bellorín. We caught Ramona's i n a u g u r a l e x h i b i t i o n for Arnold, a Denton-based mother of three who showcased h e r c h e e k y knitting-based p r a c t i c e t h a t skewers notions of female beauty. ramonaresidency.com.
