F or the Junior League of Houston's newly refreshed interiors, designers Ann Wolf and Ashley Holden were inspired by the city's lush parks, bayous, and beautifully landscaped neighborhoods. "These interiors are a celebration of gardens and nature," Wolf says. "Many of the rooms face courtyards, so you also have a sense of the outside coming in." Throughout, the designers incorporated woodland and garden motifs on fabrics, wall coverings, and other decorative details, such as handmade fern wallpaper inspired by 18th- and 19-century fern botanicals; faux bois lamps glazed in a rich thyme color; and acorn and oak-leaf patterns embroidered on pillows by artisans in India. Ceilings and walls are covered in complex, custom latticework and custom rugs are woven to reference caning and basket weave patterns. The Tea Room, which serves lunch to League members and can be reserved for public events, is layered with many shades of green, including Michael S. Smith's Jasper fabric on walls that evoke flowering vines. Doors and trim are lacquered in a custom high-gloss color inspired by Farrow & Ball's Cooking Apple Green, and the green-and- white carpeting, designed by Wolf and Holden, is based on a vintage ceramic tile. "The Junior League is steeped in tradition, so we kept a traditional look to the interiors, but still made it feel current and vibrant," Holden says. The hand-painted mural in the Ballroom is by Anne Harris. In a Garden Room off the Tea Room, the walls are covered in a custom wood trellis. Custom rug inspired by a vintage ceramic-tile design. Group of brassica (cabbages) prints from England by Johann Wilhelm Weinmann. In the Parlor lounge, walls are covered in Twigs Botanical Ferns wallpaper. Sofa upholstered in Rosemary Hallgarten velvet with pillows in Chelsea Textiles Greensleeves hand- embroidered linen. Custom basketweave-pattern rug by Wolf Holden Design Studio.
