R ita Konig has spent two decades teaching people how to decorate through magazine columns, online courses, and the rooms she designs for clients. Now she's launched her first collection under her own name. Rita Konig Household Goods, which debuts this month, includes glassware, ceramics, baskets, linens, garden furniture, upholstery, and a selection of antiques. Some pieces she designed, some she commissioned from makers, and some, like the antiques, she found. The collection is meant to make a house feel lived-in rather than merely decorated. These are things to use every day, not save for guests, and to mix with what you already own — the same way Konig layers antiques and Below, from left: Rita Konig. There's hand-blown Venetian glass that goes in the dishwasher, including twist tumblers with colored rims, a lemonade jug with green handle, and a doughnut jug with a hole through its middle. The collection also has stoneware nesting bowls, linen tea towels, wicker baskets for kindling and vegetables, and teak garden furniture. Konig may be English, but she spent six years working in New York, and her rooms show it, combining English pedigree with an American sense of scale and generosity. Layered with antiques, art, color, and pattern, her rooms usually include something unexpected, such as a jolt of zebra. That mix has put her on nearly every top-designer list, from Architectural Digest's AD100 to Elle Decor's A-List; in 2024, House & Garden named her Designer of the Year. She continues to write a monthly column for Elle Decor.
