What the stylists at Josephine's love about reds is that whether you want a solid red color or just a few "red lights" throughout your hair, reds can make a big statement or just a tiny little whisper. While the sun may brighten your hair color in the summer, red hair is a great color to have in the winter since the sun will not cause your red to fade. In either case, using styling products with a heat protector is a good idea for any shade to maintain your vibrancy. The top stylist pick for this is the Color Conserve Daily Color Protect. This works well on any hair type and is a leave in product to protect hair from the sun. Some shades of reds to consider are: Coppers | Plums | Chocolate | Deep Ruby Here are some things to consider when having rich reds: • Skin tone – Although transforming to a red head will work with many skin tones, red heads looks best with skin tones on the pink side. • Eye color – If you have green or blue eyes, adding red will enhance your eye color, but going red can work well with any eye color. • Maintenance – In order to maintain your new color, you need to be able to commit to using correct Aveda products in your everyday routine. Aveda's Color Conserve line and Madder Root products are both great stylist recommendations for red heads. You are even able to mix and match the two based on your tone of red and how often you are shampooing. Another great way to keep your red looking fresh is by adding a glaze when you are in for your regular touch-up (usually every 4-6 weeks). This glaze will refresh your roots and ends and increase shine and vibrancy throughout your hair. • Makeup Tips – Avoid wearing a smoky eye or dark eye colors. Think more on the pink or pastel side of your makeup trends. You can always have one of our on-staff makeup artists for some tips and great color combinations. Although reds are great on lots of skin tones, it is not for everyone. Come to Josephine's today and have a hair color expert talk to you about your winter hair color!
