OCTOBER | PAGE 21 | 2015 ETRO OPENS: OCTOBER 1 Stocking: Womenswear, menswear, accessories, fragrance, tabletop, throws and homeware. Luxe Factor: The Etro label was founded in Italy in 1968, and the stores and the brand echo the Etro family's elegance and eccentricity, as well as a passion for art and culture. The Houston boutique is in the Art Deco style, with stitched suede and lacquered surfaces and polished marble floors. The equally rich collection is filled with sumptuous velvets in deep Milanese colors, rich paisley prints and pattern on pattern. Filippo Tattoni-Marcozzi, an Etro family friend and PaperCity's intrepid European correspondent, reports. The first time Jacopo Etro and I met was in Dallas about six years ago, when Neiman Marcus celebrated the iconic Italian brand at the Crystal Charity Ten Best Dressed Women of Dallas fashion show. It was a hot September day, and the room was full, both on the runway and in the audience, with elegant ladies all wearing the latest Etro autumn/winter collection. It was surreal: Velvet coats, rich cashmere, and purple and maroon furs were everywhere. Jacopo was astonished not only to see all that beauty and elegance embodying his namesake style, but also how warm a Texas welcome can be. Jacopo and I discussed much as the Etro siblings planned their two new Texas outposts (Etro opens in Dallas this fall) during my stays at the family's chalet in St. Moritz last winter and in their magnificent house towering over the old town of Ibiza last summer. Each of the residences reflects the Etro lifestyle maxim: family + art + friends + color. The company was founded by their father, Gimmo Etro, and is now run by his children, each taking on separate leading roles. During my visits, we traveled about and divided our time between contemporary art galleries and small street antique markets. Their curiosity is endless, and the design research never stops. The collecting spirit of their father has been passed onto the siblings, and each of the Etro stores, from Milan to New York, Tokyo to Beijing, is filled with art and antiques ... and the Etro collections. Stocking: Men's suiting and sportswear, women's runway collections, lavish, bags, shoes and accessories, children's, fine jewelry and watches, made-to-order crocodile accessories and made-to-measure tailoring for men. Luxe Factor: The house's founders and designers, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, take much of their inspiration from Italian films and filmmakers. With Madonna and Christy Turlington as muses, they once remarked that they wouldn't mind if their only contribution to fashion history was a black bra. Madonna immortalized the brand in 1991, just six years after their first show, when she wore one of their jeweled corsets to the Truth or Dare premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Since then, Dolce & Gabbana has taken its no-rules Italian aesthetic mainstream with its signature (and iconic) black bras, crosses, animal prints and Sicilian madre black veils and lace dresses. This month, the house that sexy built opens in River Oaks District with 4,843 square feet lavished in iconic red velvet wainscoting, tonal damask, plum-colored velvet and Canaletto walnut finishings that play up Dolce & Gabbana's provocative, super-feminine, Southern Italian- inspired ethos. Stocking: To commemorate Giuseppe Zanotti's 20th anniversary this fall, the designer will launch a series of special collections focusing on iconic designs from the last two decades; they will be available in store along with the signature heels and flats, bags, jewelry, men's shoes and some ready-to-wear. Luxe Factor: DJ turned designer Zanotti showed his first collection in New York 21 years ago, and high- wattage clients such as J-Lo, Madonna and Beyoncé have made the sexy shoe a household name among the biggest fashion brands in the industry. Who knew fashion without leather or fur could be so glamorous. STELLA McCARTNEY OPENS: OCTOBER 5 PATEK PHILIPPE AT DE BOULLE OPENS: OCTOBER 22 CHOPARD OPENS: OCTOBER 1 Stocking: Fine jewels, men's and women's watches. Limited edition of 25 Happy Texas watches commemorating the Houston opening. Luxe Factor: This boutique is the first of its kind in the States. As the official timekeeper for Monaco's Formula 1 Grand Prix, Chopard awards watches from the historic Grand Prix collection to winners in every category. But its history of haute horlogerie, or fine watchmaking, began in 1860 in the Swiss village of Sonvilier, where Louis-Ulysse Chopard established his workshop. Stocking: As the only Patek Philippe showroom in Texas, de Boulle stocks a large collection of exquisite men's and women's timepieces, as well as the de Boulle collection of jewelry designed by Karen Boulle. Luxe Factor: Watchmaker Patek Philippe, founded in 1839 and based in Geneva, designs and manufactures what experts consider to be the finest timepieces in the world, with only 10 to a few hundred of each model produced. One such watch, the Grand Master Chime, retails for $2.5 million and has 1,366 parts. This is the second store for the Boulle family, Denis and Karen Boulle, who have had de Boulle Jewelry in Dallas for 33 years. The new Houston de Boulle showroom is designed by Gensler, and Lisa Pope-Westerman, who headed up the project, ticks off fastidious details: "Leather-wrapped display cases, Baldinger chandeliers, artisan plaster, onyx walls and herringbone- patterned oak floors."
