OCTOBER | PAGE 22 | 2015 HERMÈS OPENS: OCTOBER 16 Stocking: Men's and women's ready-to-wear, handbags, silk scarves, fine jewelry, watches, belts, gloves, shoes, hats, fashion jewelry, perfume, small leather goods such as diaries and luggage, equestrian clothing and leather accessories. As well as the Maison collection, which includes tableware from the Art of Living; furniture from the Les Necessaires collection; and floor and table lamps from the recently launched Hermès en Lumière collection. Luxe Factor: This two-story flagship has special reserved parking on the roof for lucky VIP clientele. For more details about the mega-flagship launch of all things chic, go to page 26. INTERMIX OPENS: OCTOBER 1 Stocking: Highly curated mix of contemporary and designer apparel and accessories from names like Yigal Azrouël, Proenza Schouler, Missoni, Phillip Lim, ALC, Rag & Bone, Helmut Lang, Neil Barret, Barbara Bui, Theyskens' Theory, Valentino, Chloé, Illesteva, and Tabitha Simmons. Luxe Factor: Frequented by A-list celebs Beyoncé, Rihanna and Jennifer Lawrence, Intermix is the anti-department- store store. With more than 200 brands, they customize the buy for each store to reflect the market it serves. This boutique, a light and airy space designed by Matthew Janson of Janson Goldstein, is Intermix's second store in Texas (and 43rd worldwide). IPIC THEATERS OPENS: NOVEMBER 6 Stocking: Cocktails and chef-driven food. Not a Jujube in sight. Luxe Factor: This isn't your AMC popcorn stand. At iPic, choose from Premium or Premium Plus seating, reserved in advance. The difference? With Premium seats, you carry in food yourself — not brought from home, but picked up from iPic Express. And, for Premium Plus, you press a call button for a waiter to quietly and unobtrusively glide to your seat to serve cocktails and food (created by chefs and mixologists). Other PP perks: über-plush, full-leg reclining leather seats, pillows and blankets while you watch a flick. Who cares what's showing. Luxe Factor: Italian-born Roberto Cavalli apparently has an affinity for Texas. He is very fond of his Lucchese boots and wears them religiously with the rest of his uniform: a leather jacket, jeans, T-shirt and reflective shades. Maybe they go with his purple yacht. Cavalli is a dream catcher: gold lamé, patchwork, fur, fringe, jewels, excess … Few designers are as instantly recognizable. His glamorous wares are standard issue for the jet-set and Russian oligarchs — and for the rest of us mere mortals who want to feel glamorous. He opened his first store in St. Tropez in 1972, where Sophia Loren and Brigit Bardot helped launch the name. Fifty years later, Cavalli is more reflective of a lifestyle than of any passing trend or seasonal interpretation, with a cult following. The 4,000-square-foot Houston boutique carries a wide range of Cavalli's exalted Animalier and Technicolor prints, and the Spring 2016 collection (shown last month in Milan) is newly appointed creative director Peter Dundas' first. What big, sexy shoes to fill. JOHN LOBB OPENS: OCTOBER 5 Stocking: Ready- to-wear collection of men's shoes and boots, By Request service (choose your shoes, fit, sole and leather from a wide offering) and Bespoke (full made- to-measure service), as well as small leather goods. Luxe Factor: The king of men's shoes and cobbler to aristocrats, John Lobb has made shoes and boots for gentleman since 1866 in London and 1902 in Paris. In 1976, Lobb was purchased by Hermès — quite a brilliant match — and the ready- to-wear shoe collection was launched in 1982 with 192 steps in the making of a single pair. TOM FORD OPENS: OCTOBER 1 Stocking: Womenswear, menswear, bags and accessories, shoes, eyewear, fragrance. Luxe Factor: Even 50 years ago in Austin, Tom Ford was setting trends. Our cover subject this month says he wore a three- piece suit and briefcase to school in the fourth grade. Bruises aside, Ford has become the sexiest designer alive — and one of the most private. Following his heady resurgence of both the Gucci and Saint Laurent labels, Ford took a break, made a critically acclaimed movie, A Single Man, and built a new fashion empire with business partner Domenico De Sole. See the entire exhilarating tale on pages 28 and 29.
