25 B ack in the '50s, Lilly Pulitzer, a Palm Beach socialite married to Orange Grove magnate Peter Pulitzer, designed a series of brightly patterned shift dresses. The reason: to hide any orange- juice stains accumulated while working at her Palm Beach juice stand —her passion project after doctors deemed her psychologically unfit to be a lady of leisure. Her Miss Porter's School classmate/friend Jacqueline Kennedy was photographed in Life magazine wearing one of Pulitzer's floral shifts, and the rest is history. Now Houston gets a dose of Palm Beach prep. Highland Village, with its palm-tree and twinkly-light-lined streets, is the ideal location for Lilly Pulitzer's new Houston boutique, which will house the full collection of resort wear and accessories for women and girls.
