On the Festival Hill menu. Our opening concert on Saturday, June 9. Each season is a thrill. Not only is it the fi rst time that the Texas Festival Orchestra performs each summer, after only fi ve days of rehearsals, but also the thrilling capacity audience that fi lls our concert hall. We are celebrating the 80th anniversary of one of America's foremost women composers, Joan Tower, on Saturday, June 23, with two concerts. Much of her music, both chamber and orchestral, will be performed. Then there are two more commemorations at Festival Hill this summer: Debussy's 100th year of the date of his passing (Saturdays, June 30 and July 14), and the Patriotic Concert (Sunday, July 1), which will honor the 100th birthday of the famed American composer/ conductor Leonard Bernstein. Ideal Sunday in Round Top. Deli sandwiches from the Round Top Mercantile, and picnics under the live oaks at the William Lockhart Clayton House and in the sanctuary of the McAshan Gardens [both on the campus of Festival Institute]. Cinematic list. Films I have enjoyed so far this year are Dunkirk, brilliantly acted by Gary Oldman, and The Post. And I never tire of watching The Hundred-Foot Journey with Helen Mirren, one of my favorite actresses along with Judy Dench. Also Tea with Mussolini. And PBS's beautiful fi lms are a must to watch when possible. Readers would be the most surprised to learn about you.
