Because the client hadn't set foot in the apartment for a year and a half, Merryman wanted the final reveal to be especially memorable. "I insisted it be at dusk because the space is so dramatic at night," he says. Kuperman's favorite Bloody Mary drink was ready for him when he walked in, candles flickered, and there were vases of cinnabar-hued anemones and a dozen sumptuous white orchids. "Bob looked around, shaking his head like he couldn't believe his eyes, and grinning ear to ear," Merryman recalls. "He told me he'd never seen his collections in this way before, and everything felt new."
