THE BIG CHILL SHELBY HODGE WARMS TO THE IDEA. PHOTOGRAPHY JENNY ANTILL CLIFTON, JOHNNY THAN. I n celebration of its 100th a n n i v e r s a r y, H o u s t o n Methodist Hospital took over Minute Maid Park for an evening that raised a remarkable $9.5 million — one that would also be remembered for the chilling temps that had guests wrapping up in furs and bundling under Houston Astros blankets, while CBS sportscaster Jim Nantz, quipped that the hospital would soon be opening a hypothermia wing. Chairs of the Rendezvous of the Century gala, Ann and John Bookout, and a coterie of 2,500 guests quickly warmed to the evening that more than doubled the financial goal. Dinner music by Encore Strings, a concert by the Houston Symphony, a set of Nat King Cole staples from Hamilton star Leslie Odom Jr., and indoor fireworks rounded out the night.
