ART + DECORATION P aul McCobb, a leading voice of American design during the '50s and '60s, popularized furniture with simple forms and lack of ornamentation. His elegant pared-down style became synonymous with the stylish Mad Men era, gracing the offices of Columbia Records and Mick Jagger's London flat in the 1960s. McCobb died at age 51 in 1969, but his original designs have remained highly collectible, and were only found at vintage shops, at auction, or in museums such as MoMA and Cooper Hewitt. CB2's newly reintroduced Paul McCobb collection is the first time the designer's work has been produced by an American retailer in a half-century. The collection was curated and developed in partnership with Form Portfolios, which owns and manages iconic designs by other important mid-century designers such as Jens Risom and Ray and Charles Eames. The initial collection of 36 pieces ranges from bedroom furniture to lighting and outdoor living, with additional furniture to be introduced in future collections.
