The Two Moods of Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas By Kendall Morgan T wo distinct moods prevailed in the sixth iteration of Kips Bay Decorator Show House Dallas — moody saturated color designed for nooks and hideaways, long passageways, and drinks rooms, opening to brilliantly sunny morning rooms and terraces. The Cole Smith-designed building at 2999 Turtle Creek with its grand 25,000-square-foot French Renaissance environs was the mise en place. Twenty-six designers from across the United States and London have drawn from such influences as Bill Blass' Sutton Place apartment, Bunny Mellon's pastel palette, and Babe Paley's 5th Avenue living room. The allure of 1920s Shanghai, Miles Davis jazz tunes, and unfinished William Morris paintings were also totems. Proceeds from the Dallas Show House benefited Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club (which provides essential programs to more than 12,000 young people across the Bronx), as well as Dallas nonprofits Dwell with Dignity and The Crystal Charity Ball, which means the event engaged design and charitable contributions.
