JANE SHIREK meantime. I think there's nothing chicer than knowing one's way around the best local designers, thus scooting to The Office of Angela Scott for handmade oxfords, House of MacGregor for a fedora, the DMA for a Charlotte Max clutch, and deBoulle for Karen Boulle's rock-the-house jewelry garners extra style points in my book. (Tracking down the inimitable Elizabeth Anyaa for one of her handmade scarves puts you head and shoulders above the rest.) There are plenty of upcoming events to flaunt your fall finery. This month alone boasts more than 20 major soirées, and we look forward to seeing your fabulously attired self at each and every one. No more sleeping late and working from home just to hang out with the kids. My contrasting travels have been completed, finishing in Eastern Europe after West Texas. Who can't love the pace over there: Tour a medieval castle or two and finish the day with four pints of lager; sixhour walking tour of Prague — four pints of lager; day tour of Auschwitz — tears, reflection, six pints of lager. I actually stayed several days in the town of Ceske Budejovice (aka: Budweis) in the Czech Republic, where the original Budweiser was formulated in the 13th century. (I went to visit friends who live there, not to make a beer pilgrimage, I promise!) Here at the magazine, we've been going through a series of inward-looking exercises over the summer. The intent has been to highly define our DNA, uncommon offering and our passionate community of readers. With a dip into the company's vault, the famed, classic Collier de Chien, Kelly Double Tour and Chaîne d'Ancre bracelets are combined and reimagined in rose gold or white gold with diamonds. They might just be better together than they were alone. From $37,900, at Hermès. Over the next couple of months, our readers, clients and friends may be asked for input — which we sincerely value and appreciate. One sneak glimpse into our findings so far reveals the definition of our core reader: a curious, involved male or female who seeks out stylish, sophisticated and aspirational experiences that enrich the quality of his or her life in a local context. Yep, that's you. Enjoy the huge September issue. Before her time at Vogue, this global style influencer and creator was stylist and muse to creative director Tom Ford at Gucci in the 1990s; Ford makes a PA in the film, as does Karl Lagerfeld (watch for his scene-stealing moment with the baby carriage), Sarah Jessica Parker, Alexander Wang, Jay-Z, Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier and Diane von Furstenberg. Directed by famed fashion documentarian Fabien Constant, who's wellknown to fashion insiders from his other cinematic releases including The Day Sarah Jessica Parker, Karl Before (behind the scenes at Fashion Week), Marc Lagerfeld, Carine Roitfeld in Mademoiselle C Jacobs & Louis Vuitton and The Vogue Fashion Night Out. Mademoiselle C is revelatory, exposing both professional and personal sides of the fabled fashion arbiter, one of the two most influential fashion editors in the world (the other being Anna, of course.) Roitfeld says, "Seeing myself on-screen for the first time was like walking naked down the Champs-Élysées." For our exclusive Q&A with director Constant, visit papercitymag.com. Dallas is one of six cities worldwide premiering the film Wednesday, September 11, at the Angelika Film Center. angelikafilmcenter.com. Megan Pruitt Winder A COHEN MEDIA GROUP RELEASE; BOTH PHOTOS COURTESY COHEN MEDIA GROUP C hanging leaves, football and an ever-so-slight nip in the air (post-10 pm) may be harbingers of the changing season, but for me, nothing says September quite like the arrival of fall fashion. As you'll see on subsequent pages, we're keen on the borrowedfrom-the-boys trend, but there are plenty of other looks to love. To wit: The Row's oversized fisherman sweater, Tabitha Simmons' red suede pointed-toe ankle boots, Dries Van Noten's ostrich-feather sheath, Stella McCartney's plaid overcoat and absolutely anything from Chanel. What our city lacks in Mother Nature's bounty, it more than delivers in shopping destinations, thus rendering jaunts to NY, Paris or Milan for a seasonal fashion fix truly unnecessary. We're waiting anxiously for Tom Ford's and Brunello Cucinelli's arrivals at Highland Park Village, but there is plenty of homegrown talent to sate us in the Retro ACTIVE Brian Bolke Forty Five Ten has long been synonymous with latebreaking style. But starting this month, owner Brian Bolke Cameron steps back in time for a four-month partnership with Silver Cameron Silver of Decades, Hollywood's end-all-be-all of vintage. Bolke and his fashion emporium have hosted Silver on many occasions, but this collab has the duo curating with a different monthly theme in mind, beginning with a collection of silk blouses (think Céline, Hermès and YSL) then introducing a black-and-white evening collection that pays homage to TWO x TWO come October. November equals coats and furs and December's pièce de résistance — Chanel — coincides with Monsieur Lagerfeld's visit to Dallas that very month. 4510 McKinney, 214.559.4510; fortyfiveten.com. Lauren Scheinin Galveston's New Grand Dame As summer winds down and tan lines fade, imagine being one of the fabulous few to take yearround trips to the coast — just because. Of course, Malibu is unmatched, and Bal Harbour beckons, but who has time? Now, Galveston glows greater with a posh gated enclave in the works: 10 beachfront lots of a prodigious two to four acres each, à la Palm Beach. Located on the Island's East End, Estates of Grand Beach is in the process of development by Houston- SEPTEMBER | PAGE 4 | 2013 based Falcon Group and Grand Beach Development ; each lot will have 190 feet minimum of private beachfront per home, full-time security and a community helipad. Highly respected Kirksey Architecture is at the helm to design the common areas and the main thoroughfare, while buyers can bring in their own architects for home construction. Each parcel of land allows for multiple residential structures to form family compounds, with room to spare for pools, tennis courts and putting greens — so, do like the American elite and get cracking on that Hyannis Port or Walker's Point. Lot prices from $1,500,000. Texas Coastal Realty is accepting reservations. 801 East Beach Dr., Galveston, 409.497.4115; tcr.us.com. Caroline Starry LeBlanc
